About Us:
The New Melle Fire Protection District (NMFPD) was organized over
50 years ago as an all-volunteer department. Currently responsible
for protecting 121 square miles, it is the largest geographic FPD
in all of St. Charles County. It has three fire stations: Station
1 (main) on Mill Street/Hwy Z near Hwy D, Station 2 on Hwy D at
Hwy DD, and Station 3 on Borgman Road off Highway T, near the entrance
of the Lake Sherwood development.
New Melle FPD currently has twelve full-time paid
personnel and 30 active volunteers who serve to protect the residents
and property of the district. On April 8, 2003, a tax increase was
passed by voters in the district that facilitated adding enough
paid firefighters so as to provide 24-hour, 7 day per week emergency
response from NMFPD's Station 1 with 3-person crews. This 24/7 service
commenced on January 5, 2004.
The district owns a total of fourteen fire service
vehicles. New Melle FPD currently runs approximately 600 calls per
year, including fires (structure, vehicle, brush), fire alarm response,
motor vehicle accidents/extrication, Basic Life Support (BLS) medical
first response, and various other incident types. The department
also provides such services as inspections, issuance of burn permits,
installation of child safety seats and smoke detectors, fire safety
talks, and tours and demonstrations.
