About Us:
The O’Fallon Fire Protection District was first formed in
1906 as the O’Fallon Volunteer Fire Department. In the early
years the City of O’Fallon financed the fire department. Sometime
shortly after World War II, the fire department was reorganized
and became a separate entity from the City of O’Fallon and
became a subscription fire department. Subscription fire department
characteristically sell fire tags that are hung on a home or the
main building of a farm complex and identifies you as a member of
the fire department entitled to fire protection as a member. By
the late 1960’s it became clear that this funding mechanism
was not adequate. In June of 1970, the citizens in the area surrounding
O’Fallon were asked to endorse a fire protection district
by a vote of the people. The issue passed and we became the O’Fallon
Fire Protection District.
The O’Fallon Fire Protection District (OFPD)
now serves an area of 67 square miles and a population of some 70,000
residents. It is located in one of the faster growing counties in
the United States. A three-member board of directors governs the
fire district as a separate political entity under revised Missouri
State Statute 321. It boasts five fire stations with a sixth on
the drawing board. There are 54 career firefighters and officers,
a fire prevention bureau of 5, finance and support staff of 3 and
some 30 volunteer firefighters. The OFPD is a progressive full service
fire department that provides prompt professional fire, rescue,
and Basic Life Support (BLS) services along with a myriad of other
services. Our members install smoke detectors, replace batteries,
install infant car seats, perform fire safety inspections, check
homes for carbon monoxide, etc. For more information concerning
the OFPD, call 636-272-3493.
