About Us:
The River's Pointe Fire Protection District is located between the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers which makes up the Eastern tip of St. Charles County. The district was formed by a merger of the Portage Des Sioux Community Volunteer Fire Department and the West Alton Fire Protection District in January of 2007. The district protects 64 square miles of mostly rural agricultural area with moderate residential and a minor industrial make-up. The district serves approximately 1000 residents and responds to an average of 260 incidents per year.
The Portage Des Sioux Volunteer Fire Department was first incorporated in February of 1946 by members of the community and served in that capacity until January of 2007 when the department merged with the West Alton Fire protection District.
The West Alton Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1956 by members of the community and served in that capacity until 1999 when the community voted for the department to become a fire protection district.
